Consultation has concluded

UPDATE:
The new Floodplain Management Bylaw No. 1669, 2022 was adopted by the Regional Board on May 18, 2023. The bylaw can be viewed in full on the FVRD Website.


In response to changes to the Provincial Flood Hazard Area Land Use Management Guidelines and the Fraser River Design Flood Level update (2015), the FVRD is updating Floodplain Management Bylaw No. 0681, 2005 to Floodplain Management Bylaw No. 1669, 2022. The update to the bylaw includes, but is not limited to, the following key amendments:

  • New terms and definitions
  • Revised and expanded exemptions consistent with the Provincial Guidelines
  • Revised floodproofing requirements for properties adjacent to the Coquihalla River
  • Changes to the exemptions for Dewdney Dike and Nicomen Island Dike areas
  • Clarified language pertaining to Site Specific exemptions
  • Overall changes to Flood Construction Levels in the Lower Fraser River (Laidlaw to Dewdney)

The draft Bylaw will be considered by the Regional Board at the regularly scheduled meeting on May 18, 2023. A link will be provided when the draft bylaw has been published on the agenda.
